Paul Kruger or “Uncle Paul” as he is known in SA, was the last President of the Zuid-Afrikaanse Republiek (Transvaal).  He was elected to this position four consecutive times. Few people know that he took part in the Great Trek as a young boy and that he was also witness to the Bloukrans murders. He knew the Bible of-by-heart and helped develop guerilla tactics.  He was elected to this position four consecutive times.  He was not only an excellent politician but also a fierce warrior, even taking on a lion and a rhino single-handedly.  The Kruger National Park was named for him, as well as 53 streets in the Netherlands and 6 in Belgium. Kruger was referred to as the “Lion of South Africa” by several Dutch writers.
